Château Eugénie is one of the most ancient historic estates of the Cahors AOC. The Couture family is attested in service of the seigneur of Albas from 1470 according to departmental archives — that is 555 years of family continuity in 2026. The château's name is a tribute to great-great-grandmother Eugénie who gave her first name to the property. Today, the estate covers 32 hectares of Cahors AOC + 5 hectares of IGP Côtes du Lot, at Albas on the right bank of the Lot.
⚠️ Important canon note: the Cuvée Pierre le Grand of Château Eugénie is a legitimate and recognised cuvée. It is distinct from the banned « Pierre Le Court » cuvée mentioned in SEO_PLAYBOOK §3.6 — the latter is a historic erroneous attribution no longer to be mentioned.
For general context, see our complete Cahors AOC guide and our Causse vs Valley comparison.
Terroir and vineyard
32 hectares of Cahors AOC + 5 hectares of IGP Côtes du Lot (reds, rosés, whites). The vineyard sits on the 2nd and 3rd terraces of the Lot Valley, as well as on mid-slope hillsides and causse plateaus — that is the complete set of principal AOC terroirs.
Malbec dominates at ~85%, complemented by Merlot and Tannat depending on the cuvée. Manual harvest on selection cuvées. Rigorous classic vinification, ageing in vats and barrels depending on profile.
Couture family — 555 years at Albas
1470: according to departmental archives, the Couture family is in service of the seigneur of Albas. Nearly five-and-a-half-century presence in 2026. The transition from tenant to owner status happened progressively across the 18th and 19th centuries, before the adoption of the name « Château Eugénie » in tribute to the great-great-grandmother who marked family history.
Today, the estate is led by the Couture family in direct lineage, with care for continuity and transmission. Family depth gives the estate a precious terroir memory.

To note for the wine lover
- Exceptional family depth: 555 years is one of the longest lineages of the AOC, comparable to Château Pineraie (Burc since 1456). These two estates embody Cadurcian historic continuity.
- Terroir diversity: Eugénie exploits both valley terraces and causse hillsides. Allows comparison of two stylistic profiles within the same estate. See Causse vs Valley.
- Pierre le Grand vs « Pierre Le Court » cuvée: watch the semantic distinction — Pierre le Grand is the real Eugénie prestige cuvée, legitimate and canon. Do not confuse with the historic erroneous attribution « Pierre Le Court ».
- Classic style: Eugénie is not organic but maintains rigorous integrated viticulture. For the classic heritage Cadurcian style, it is a reference. Compare with Château Lamartine or Château La Caminade for the same stylistic school.
